PATNA: The JDU on Sunday announced its third list of 11 candidates for the Bihar elections,taking the total number of its candidates in the fray to 138. According to the third list of candidates released,Jitendra has been nominated from Ashtawa Assembly seat,while Sunil Kumar will contest from Biharsharif. CM Nitish Kumar will kick off the election campaign from Madhepura from October 8.

1 killed as train hits vehicle at crossing

MOTIHARI: A man was killed when the UP Muzaffarpur-Narkatiaganj Express hit a truck at an unmanned railway crossing near Bangri between Pipra and Shivdhara stations in Bihars East Champaran district on Sunday. Sources said the driver of the truck jumped as he saw the approaching train and later escaped. The mutilated body of the cleaner was found from the truck drivers cabin.

Two killed by Naxals in Gadchiroli

NAGPUR: Suspected Naxals killed a middle-aged woman and a village revenue staff in Maharashtras Gadchiroli district,police said on Sunday. A group of Naxals allegedly killed 40-year-old Mayabai Sukhdeo Duga by slitting her throat in Talaitola area in Gadchirolis Dhanora taluka on Saturday night. Later,the outlaws went to Mendherola village in Dhanora,where they slit the throat of Murlidhar Mahadore 50 early on Sunday.

Jawan commits suicide near LoC

JAMMU: An army jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Rajouri district,police said here on Sunday. Sepoy Gurmail Singh of 62 Engineering Regiment shot himself during duty hours last night in Gurdan-Bala area along the LoC. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead,they said,adding the army has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the incident.

IPS wives host mela to showcase skills

New Delhi: To showcase products made by family members of police personnel,the IPS officers wives association will organise a fair near the old JNU campus on October 16. The mela will display and sell products like jewellery,sarees,shawls,paintings,etc prepared mainly by wives of police personnel working in central police organisations. The fair is part of several initiatives by the IPS Wives Welfare Association to bring economic independence to female members of police households.

Debt-ridden weaver ends life in AP

KARIMNAGAR AP: Unable to repay his loans,another debt-ridden weaver ended his life in Sircilla town of the district,police said on Sunday. Dornala Santosh 22,a final-year degree student,who eked out a living through weaving work,had borrowed about Rs 2.5 lakh from private lenders for setting up the weaving infrastructure. But,he suffered loss in the business and found it difficult to repay the loans and committed suicide by hanging himself at his house on Saturday night.

3 poachers arrested,antlers seized

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Three persons were arrested on poaching allegations and about nine quintals of antlers were seized from their possession in Saharanpur district,police said on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off,police raided a house at Behat town in the district on Saturday and recovered about nine quintals of antlers of chital,barasingha,sambar and wild deer from it. The three were arrested and a case was registered against them under various sections of Wild Life Protection Act,1972.
