AHMEDABAD: The hearing on the bail application of former minister of state Home Amit Shah has been adjourned till September 9. Shah is in Sabarmati Central Jail,Ahmedabad after being arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation CBI in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. His application was scheduled for hearing on Tuesday. However,the judge of the CBI court,P P Bhatt,was on leave so the hearing has now been adjourned to Thursday.

30 Oppn MLAs suspended from Haryana Assembly

CHANDIGARH: Thirty opposition MLAs were on Tuesday suspended from the Haryana Assembly for creating ruckus in the House over the issue of an alleged rape of a girl in a car reportedly owned by state Home Minister Gopal Kanda,in Gurgaon. Speaker H S Chatha suspended 29 INLD MLAs and one SAD legislator,including Leader of the Opposition Om Prakash Chautala who were demanding Kanda8217;s resignation.

I-T official to head expenditure cell in EC

NEW DELHI: Amid the concerns over increasing use of money power during the elections,the Election Commission has appointed a senior Income Tax official to head the Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell that will start its work from Bihar assembly elections. P K Das,a Director General-level officer of Central Board of Director Taxes has been appointed as the head of the Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell.

Railway womens body donates for Leh relief

NEW DELHI: In a special gesture aimed to boost relief efforts in Leh,the Railway Women8217;s Welfare Central Organization RWWCO,a noted voluntary organisation comprising of the wives of Indian Railway officers,has donated Rs 25 lakh to the Prime Minister8217;s National Relief Fund. Minister of Railways Mamata Banerjee received the cheque from Manjushree Sahai,president of RWWCO,and other members of the organisation on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: Union Defence Minister A K Antony will visit Leh on Wednesday to review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation work of the armed forces in the cloudburst-hit areas of Ladakh. He will visit Tyakshi in Turtuk Sector where 25 Army personnel from the Bihar and Rajputna Rifles regiments had gone missing when Ladakh was hit by cloudburst on August 6 this year.

Suspended jail warden commits suicide

LUDHIANA: Jail warden Kashmir Lal,who was suspended recently following the escape of a prisoner from PGI Chandigarh,committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his room at his residence here. According to ACP Bhupinder Singh,police recovered a suicide note in which Lal,44,had accused a jail official of torturing him mentally.

Bhopal gas: MTNL cant give PMO call records

NEW DELHI: The MTNL has expressed its inability to provide records of call details between the Prime Minister8217;s Office and the US government in the aftermath of the Bhopal gas tragedy. 8220;As the Customer Support Management System CSMS was introduced on April 1,1997 in the Central area,the CDR Call Detail Records of any telephone prior to April 1,1997 are not available in the office,8221; said Central Public Information Officer,MTNL,in reply to an RTI query.

NIA to submit report on Kerala IGs Qatar visit

NEW DELHI: The National Investigating Agency NIA will soon be submitting its report about the alleged association of Kerala IGP Tomin J Thachankary with certain people having terror links whom he met during his Qatar visit earlier this year. According to reports,Thachankary had allegedly met some persons in Qatar who are said to have terror links. The charges were,however,refuted by the officer. ENS and PTI
