Arunachal Pradesh set to de-reserve Deopani forest
GUWAHATI: With the Supreme Court clearing its proposal to de-reserve Deopani Reserve Forest in Lower Dibang Valley,the Arunachal Pradesh government is set to begin work to restore land rights to the reserve to 13 tribal villages. Deopani was notified as a reserve forest way back in 1936,depriving tribals of rights to the land they had possessed for generations.
NRI murder case: BJP councillor held
BATALA: Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested the absconding BJP councillor who is the prime accused in the murder case of an NRI. Rajbir Singh Bhullar was arrested for allegedly killing one Gurinder Singh outside the court complex on Friday,police said. Bhullar and three aides shot dead the 26-year-old NRI in broad daylight after a heated argument,police said.
Mumbai ledge collapse: 1 dead,3 hurt
MUMBAI: One person was killed and three others injured after a ledge-like structure on which several viewers were standing collapsed during the Ganesh immersion procession in Central Mumbai on Sunday. The accident took place near Bharatmata Theatre,when the procession of the famous Lalbagcha Raja Ganesh was underway. The injured had been rushed to KEM hospital,they said.
Mystery flu kills one in Maharashtra
BEED: One person has died of a mysterious flu while six others are undergoing treatment in Nandlagaon village,a health official said. Laxmi Balbhim Shinde,65,died on Friday night,said village Sub-Center Primary Health Centre Officer Dr Abhijeet Pakhare. We have taken blood samples of six patients and sent them to laboratories. The flu disease can be determined only after getting the reports, he said.
UP: Ex-pradhan killed over land dispute
LUCKNOW: A former village pradhan was allegedly killed by four people,including his neighbour,over a land dispute in Chinhat area,police said on Sunday. Rakesh Yadav,45,who worked as a pump operator in the irrigation department,was killed by his neighbour Ram Vilas Yadav and his three aides while he was working in the field in Mahraura village on Saturday,they said. A case has been registered.
Night trains ban: JVM leaders protest
JAMSHEDPUR: Movement of goods trains on Howrah-Mumbai route was affected after Jharkhand Vikas Morcha Prajatantrik on Sunday resorted to a 12-hour economic blockade to mount pressure on the government and Railways to resume running of passengers trains during the night. There has been a ban on night trains between Kharagpur-Tatanagar-Rourkela stations ever since the Jnaneshwari Express accident last year. Railway sources said Howrah-Ahmedabad Express and Tata-Chakradharpur passenger trains were detained,and a goods train was also blocked.
Valley: 4 dead,one hurt in car accident
SRINAGAR: Four persons including a policeman were killed and another critically injured when a speeding car skidded off the road and fell into a nullah here. The incident occurred on Saturday when a private car fell into the nullah near Padshahi Bagh when its driver,head constable Mushtaq Ahmad Nangroo,lost control of the vehicle on the way to the city from Kulgam district of south Kashmir,police said. The driver along with three passengers died in the accident while head constable Ali Mohammad was critically injured.
