The resentment over the induction of tainted men in the BJP found a voice on Wednesday when Yogi Adityanath, party MP from Gorakhpur, protested against the BJP bringing in undesirable men and giving tickets to leaders involved in corruption and rape cases.
The BJP first raised the issue of corruption on the roads and in Parliament. But now it is inducting corrupt leaders who have been sacked by BSP and SP. The BJP is also giving tickets to such leaders involved in corruption and rape cases, Adityanath said in a statement, issued on behalf of his Hindu Yuva Vahini.
He said the Vahini would not campaign for such corrupt and criminal candidates. In fact,it would organise protests against them.
Adityanath warned,The induction of corrupt leaders in the party just before elections could be damaging for the BJP. With such actions, the BJP will lose credibility and faith of public as well as party workers.
In the past two days, the BJP has inducted four sacked ministers of the BSP government Babu Singh Kushwaha,Badshah Singh,Daddan Mishra and Awdhesh Kumar Verma. Mishra and Verma have also been given party tickets. Many party-hoppers from the SP have also been given tickets.
The resentment in the BJP is particularly strong against Kushwaha during whose tenure two CMOs were gunned down,a deputy CMO died in the Lucknow jail and the massive NRHM scam took place.
Late in the evening, the party suspended state executive committee member I P Singh, who earlier in the day criticised Kushwahas induction in a statement to a TV channel. State BJP president Surya Pratap Shahi issued him a showcause notice and asked him to submit an explanation in 15 days.
Reacting to the decision,Singh said,I condemn the decision of state leaders of suspending me from the party. I hope national leaders would intervene.
Adityanath alleged that some state leaders are trying to weaken the national leadership and ideology of the party. He did not name these leaders, but he does not get along with Shahi who had welcomed Kushwaha and Badshah Singh into the party.
Party sources did not rule out a protest by workers during the public meetings which party national president Nitin Gadkari will be addressing in Jhansi and Lalitpur on Thursday. These are the partys first public meetings in the state after the announcement of polls.
The mention of men facing rape charges in Adityanaths statement is understood to be a reference to Sakshi Maharaj, although he was later acquitted. The party today announced him as its candidate from Bhogaon.
