HYDERABAD: Interrogation of Swami Aseemanand,accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast case,started on Saturday with the CBI taking him into custody from Chanchalguda Central Prison. The CBI is likely to take Aseemanand to the Dangs in Gujarat where he had set up an ashram. Two others linked to the case Devendra Gupta and Lokesh Sharma are under judicial remand in Hyderabad.

Dalit woman gangraped in UP

Muzaffarnagar: A Dalit woman was allegedly gangraped by two youths at Makhiyali village under new Mandi police station in the district,the police said here on Saturday. The woman had gone out to relieve herself when two youths forcibly took her to nearby fields and raped her. They also threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone,they said,adding later the accused escaped. The irate villagers held a protest and search is on to nab the accused.

Stepfather leaves child to starve,held

Kollam Kerala: A two-year-old girl left alone allegedly by her step-father to starve in a shed with ants swarming around her was rescued and taken to hospital by people at Meeyannur village near here. After rescuing the child and her mother,the villagers informed the police and admitted the child to a hospital. The step-father of the child has been taken into custody and a cruelty case registered against him,the police said.

Boys killing: BSF men face court martial

JAMMU: Border Security Force Commandant R K Birdi and Constable Lukhvinder Kumar,who have been charged with the murder of a 16-year-old boy,Zahid Farooq,in Srinagar in February this year,will now face court martial. Srinagar CJM Yashpal Bourney had on Thursday transferred the murder case involving Birdi and Lukhvinder to the BSF court on the ground that both the accused were on duty at the time of the crime. BSF Special DG P P S Sidhu said on Saturday,Let the case come to our court,both the officials will face court martial.

Rambalak Mahato is new Bihar AG

Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday appointed senior lawyer Rambalak Mahato as the new Advocate General of Bihar,an official spokesperson said. Mahato replaces P K Sahi who was sworn in as a member of the new Cabinet headed by Kumar on Friday. Sahi was later allotted the Human Resources

Open heart surgery performed on infant

Kochi: A complex open heart surgery was performed on a five-day-old new born baby suffering from a complex and critical birth defect of the heart at the Amrita Instiute of Medical Sciences here. This was the first successful Stage 1 Norwood operation in Kerala. The baby has been discharged from the hospital.
