The new 64-gigabyte solid-state drive from SanDisk is the size of a postage stamp.

IN the not too distant past,a computers storage drives filled a space not much smaller than our living rooms. The new 64-gigabyte solid-state drive from SanDisk is the size of a postage stamp. The SanDisk iSSD for integrated solid state drive will end up in tablet PCs,netbooks,smartphones and other mobile products.

One of the major advantages here is that the iSSD has no mechanical or moving parts,as do most internal hard drives,and the new drive could likely be attached directly to the computers motherboard,freeing up valuable interior space inside the machine.

Wynncom has launched the first Hindi QWERTY keypad phone,Y-45,making it easier for users to connect in their national language.

The Y-45 also allows consumers to send free SMSs across India,UAE,Kuwait,Saudi Arabia,Singapore,Malaysia and Philippines instantly through a free mobile phone applications provider. The dual SIM (GSM+GSM) phone comes with a 5.6 cm TFT colour screen,supports social networking sites and also has an inbuilt geographic location finder called Saarthi.

With a 1.3 MP camera,1100 mAh Battery which gives seven hours of talk time,expandable memory and e-mail the Y-45 costs just Rs 3,395.

Mini-camcorder gets touch

Kodak has expanded its pocket camcorder line with the new PlayTouch Video Camera,a slim,snazzy update to its very capable Zi8 model. Its more compact than its predecessor and the waterproof PlaySport,and has a bigger 3-inch LCD screen with touch navigation.

The $230 PlayTouch is just 0.6-inch thick and weighs 3.5 ounces. The screen lets you view video in horizontal widescreen mode,although shooting is done vertically.

The PlayTouch has the same 1080p high-definition video capture as its predecessors and employs a 1/3.2 CMOS sensor thats one stop more sensitive than that of the Zi8,according to Kodak.

And a colour e-reader

MerchSource has announced the launch of its Literati: a low-cost dedicated e-reader with a full-colour screen. The Literati sells for about $159 including a case. Its designed to display books and other printed materials,and nothing more. No website access and no games.

The device is powered by Kobos e-book engine. Kobo offers more than two million titles. Kobo e-reading software is also available for a number of different smartphones and PCs. The Literati borrows Apples bookshelf paradigm for displaying texts.

Using Wi-Fi only,books are purchased and downloaded and then can be synched with a Kobo app on another device,making it easy for the reader to pick up on an iPhone,for instance.
