A seven-year-old girl was raped and killed by her relative late on Saturday in Khargone even as another minor who was raped four days ago in Seoni was battling for her life in a hospital in Nagpur.
Ramesh,a labourer,lured his niece when she was at home with her younger brother,and threw her into a river after raping her in Marugadh village of Khargone district. Her body was found on Sunday morning. The Khargone police have sent teams to the places where the labourer worked in the past and also to his home in a nearby village. Doctors have confirmed rape.
According to Khargone SP,the cause of death was drowning. He said the alleged rapist was related to the victim,and did not have any criminal background.
Meanwhile,the Seoni police have launched a hunt for Firoz Khan,who allegedly raped a five-year-old in Ghansaur village of Seoni district four days ago. While police teams have gone to Bihar,the native of the alleged rapist,the town observed a bandh on Saturday. The victim was first taken to Jabalpur and from there to Nagpur for better treatment.
The alleged rapist,who works as a welder in a power plant,had lured the victim by offering her a chocolate.
The victim was in a serious condition on Sunday and had been put on ventilator at the Suretech Hospital,Nagpur. Doctors Ashok Tank and Raviu Manade told mediapersons that her condition was serious. Oxygen supply to her brain has been affected badly and the pulse rate has also dropped. We have put her on ventilator, they said.
Meanwhile,the Congress in Madhya Pradesh has criticised Minister of State for Urban Development Manohar Untwal for suggesting that the number of rape cases in MP was not alarming because its population was huge. Trying to make amends later,the minister said in Jaora that more cases were being reported in the state because the police were doing their job honestly.
