The Rampur police on Monday recovered over 16-kg empty shells of semi-automatic weapons from the CRPF group centre campus.

The recovery was made following information obtained during the interrogation of CRPF personnel Vinod Paswan and Vinesh Singh who were arrested on Sunday on charges of involvement in pilferage of ammunition.

The police teams were still conducting search operations on the CRPF campus till the last report came in.

Paswan and Singh, who were keepers of the Central Weapon Store CWS of CRPF camp,Rampur, were arrested by the UP STF along with a retired sub-inspector S-I Yashoda Nand Singh and four others on Friday last.

The police said that Paswan and Singh, during their interrogation, revealed that they had concealed empty shells in the bushes on the CRPF campus. The cops took the accused to the group centre where they showed the places where they had hidden empty shells packed in gunny bags.

Meanwhile,STF ASP Satyendra Kumar Singh, who made the arrests, said that the kingpin of the pilferage racket,Yashoda Nand Singh, had earlier been suspended in 2004,after he was found involved in manipulation of the records of about 18,000 cartridges.
