The DSP said that investigations revealed that arrested accused used to steal motorcycles from different areas of Mohali.
The Mohali police has busted a vehicle theft racket with the arrest of four accused and the recovery of two motorcycles, two scooters and a Tata tipper.
DSP (City-2) Harsimran Singh Bal said the arrested accused have been identified as Prince Kumar, a resident of Daddiana Kalan village, Hoshiarpur district (currently residing in Badmajra village near a government school); Sahil, a resident of Pansariyan village, Shamli district; Tulsi Ram, a resident of Parabajra village, Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh (both currently residing in paying guest accommodation at Kumbra village); and Vishal Gupta, a resident of Ramgarh village near Bazar Visheshaganj, Amethi district, Lucknow (currently residing in Kambala village).
The DSP said that investigations revealed that Prince Kumar and Sahil used to steal motorcycles from different areas of Mohali. “After stealing the vehicles, they would dismantle them and sell the parts to a known scrap dealer, Tulsi Ram, at scrap rates of around Rs 3,000 to Rs3,500,” he said.
“Tulsi Ram would then sell the dismantled parts to his associate scrap dealer Vishal Gupta for Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000,” the DSP added. He stated that Vishal Gupta, a resident of Sector 45, Burail, Chandigarh, would sell the scrap to another dealer, Suresh, also a resident of Sector 45, Burail, Chandigarh, thereby converting the stolen vehicles into scrap.
Police said Suresh of Sector 45, Burail, Chandigarh, has been named in the case and his arrest is pending.
A case has been registered at Phase 11 police station, Mohali, under sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
