New Delhi, March 1: Vijay Kumar, who leads the Mahindra-PGAI Order of Merit, came up with a scintillating display on the final day to win the Rs 5 lakh Aravalli Open Golf Championship at the Aravalli Golf Course Faridabad, today.
He carded four-under 67, for an eight-under 276 aggregate, grounding the aspirations of overnight leader Ali Sher and the late challenge of Gaurav Ghei and Amritinder Singh in his wake, to win his fourth title on the Indian Tour this year. The win made him richer by Rs 83,300.
Four strokes behind the winner were Ali Sher and Gaurav Ghei, who finished four-under 280. The two-time Indian Open champion had a poor three-over 74, while Ghei failed to keep the momentum after an early charge, which included a birdie on the par-5 third where he holed out his third shot with a 5-iron from 180 yards, and finished the day at three-under 68. Both received Rs 43,800 each.
Vijay Kumar made up for a missed putt in the first with birdies in the second and third. Ali Sher began badly with abogey and lost focus after three-outting the par-4 seventh.
However, the most spectacular charge came from Amritinder Singh. He birdied the last four holes to end two-under 69. That helped him finish fourth and a cash prize of Rs 25,750.
