
ANANDPUR, Dec 16: The ruling Akali Dal today came under attack for alleged victimization of bureaucrats and senior public officers to vent out its anger against the Shiromani Gurduwara Parbandhak Committee SGPC chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra.
Criticising the state government for making nine officials scapegoats8217; to settle secures with Tohra, District Congress Committee general secretary Jagjit Singh Jagga asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal not to upset bureaucracy on account of infighting within the party.
Referring to recent transfers of the officials in the wake of Tohra-Badal crisis, he said, the trend was 8220;objectionable and dangerous.8221; This, he said, not only threatens the pace of development in the state, but will demoralize the honest and non-partisan officers.
He, however, cautioned the government against certain police officers, who have been teaming up with Tohra in the religious activities.
In the same break, he criticized the government for miscalculation8217; in spending public funds8217; on movements in Anandpur Sahib. Making it clear that neither his party or he himself were opposed to the tercentenary celebrations of the Khalsa Panth. He added, 8220;When the SGPC can get its jobs done through volunteers, why is the state government wasting money?8221;
He pointed out that the Markfed was spending unnecessarily8217; on the construction of two gates on the main road leading to Anandpur Sahib.
Adding that this task could have been assigned to the SGPC, he pointed out that a Kisan Bhawan being constructed here is actually a guest house8217; for the VIPs. 8220;Where was the need for such a building where there is no mandi in Anandpur sahib?8221; he asked.
