CHANDIGARH, Dec 2: Former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh’s assassination case resumed today with witness Amrik Singh identifying the photographs of two accused dropped by him in S.A.S. Nagar just before the fatal explosion.

The deposition assumes significance as according to the prosecution the witness had ferried accused Balwant Singh and Jagtar Singh Hawara from Patiala to S.A.S. Nagar on August 28, 1995 in a van.

Beant Singh was killed in an explosion outside the Civil Secretariat on August 31, 1995. While the believed-to-be human bomb Dilawar Singh was killed in the blast, nine others are currently facing trial in the case.

Today, deposing before UT District and Sessions Judge B.S. Bedi, Amrik Singh also identified his signatures on the reverse of the photographs.

He also denied the defence counsel’s suggestion regarding his signing the snaps at CBI’s instructions. Another suggestion regarding the van being owned by the police and his falsely deposing under their pressure was also denied by him. The case will now come up for further hearing tomorrow.
