
One arrested for killing peacock
The Padra police arrested one Shankarbhai Waghari for killing a peacock in Padra on Sunday. According to official information, the accused8217;s accomplice, Savabhai Waghari, was absconding.
According to a complaint filed by town residents, the two stole the peacock from a crematory and killed it probably for its meat. District Deputy Forest conservator G S Pandey said if proved guilty, the accused could be sentenced to two years or fined Rs 2,000 or both as the bird was a protected bird under Schedule I bird of the Wildlife Protection Act.
DC8217;s direction
District collector Anil Mukim, in a meeting held with traffic officals here on Monday, asked them to educate road users about traffic rules and regulations. An official release said that Mukim also directed officials to beef up policing on roads leading to nearby villages. Deputy Resident Collector C R Kharsan, Assistant Police Commissioner A R Munshi took part in the meeting.
Lok adalat held
A Lok Adalat, to look into problems related to Provident Fund and pension, was held on Monday. Organised by the Employees8217; Provident Fund Organisation8217;s sub-office, 23 cases were solved in the adalat. M P Sinha, regional P F Commissioner also attended the adalat.
Dharna observed
The Mazdoor Sangh of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation observed a dharna on Monday to protest against the non-fulfillment of their pending demands. President of the Sangh Chetan Desai said they were demanding pay scales according to the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations and also implementation of the bonus scheme as laid down by the Central government.
Elected
N D Rajpal, Resident Director of the Alembic Chemical works was unanimously elected the national president of the Public Relations Society of India PRSI at the national council meeting held in Bangalore recently for a period of two years. Rajpal has been associated with the society for two decades.
