VMC’s n-zone office opened
Civil Supplies Minister Jaspal Singh on Saturday inaugurated the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s north zone office in the Belbaug Shopping Centre to deal with sanitation and engineering grievances. Three more zones are on the anvil.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel will head the zone, which covers administrative ward numbers 7 (G) Sayajiganj and 8 (H) Raopura and election ward numbers 8 to 13. Assistant Municipal Commissioner Madhusudhan Rohit is his deputy.
Mayor for meet
Mayor Bharati Vyas and Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria will attend a meeting convened by the Gujarat Municipal Finance Board in Gandhinagar on Tuesday. To be presided over by Board chairman Fakirbhai Chauhan, the meeting will discuss ways to improve finance of the civic bodies.

Teaching and other administrative work at M S University will continue to be paralysed on Tuesday as the administrative staff have decided to go on mass casual leave in support of the striking teachers. The Baroda University Teachers’ Association, meanwhile, announced that they would take out a rally from the Performing Arts faculty on Tuesday, concluding with a submission of a memo to the collector.
Loksatta jubilee
The Loksatta Employees’ Welfare Credit Co-operative Society Limited will celebrate its silver jubilee next month, according to its president Bachubhai Shaikh. Its annual general body meeting, presided over by Avinash Maniar, on Sunday approved last year’s reports and accounts, showing a profit of more than Rs 35,000 and distribution of 15 per cent dividends. Chandubhai Jethi, Shanabhai Rana, Dhiraj Makwana and Chandrakant Shah were elected executive committee members.
Training classes
The Government Technical High School will conduct training classes for workers of closed cotton mills. The interested should contact the technical high school, opposite Maharani Shantadevi Hospital, Dandia Bazaar Road between noon and 5 p.m. on August 20 with relevant documents, including provident fund slip and relief notices.
Power theft
The Gujarat Electricity Board has detected theft of power worth Rs 55.60 lakh in the State between July 27 and August 2. More than 400 cases of irregularities were detected among the 6,201 connections checked by the squads.

The Baroda Welfare Society will give awards to Muslim students securing 70 per cent and above in the SSC and HSC examinations. Minister’s visit
Energy Minister Kaushik Patel on Monday visited Gujarat Industrial Power Company Limited. In his address, managing director J N Singh said the company had recorded net profit of Rs 13.15 crore, in the first three months of financial year 1998-99.
