It seems the University of Pune (UoP) has not learnt any lessons from the past. The examination department continues to falter in setting exam papers. The recent casualty is the examination paper of MA English (part II) for the first term, in which the UoP has asked questions on the syllabus to be taught in the second term.
The students of a well-known college in the city pointed out this issue to their teachers on Tuesday. According to the head of the English department of the college, for paper number eight of the MA part II (English) titled ‘Special Author: Thomas Hardy,’ there are six texts of Thomas Hardy to be taught, three in each term.
“There were questions on ‘Far From the Madding Crowd,’ which is to be taught in the second term. But there was not a single question on ‘Tess of the D’urbervilles,’ which is to be taught in the first term,” said the professor. “The students were at a loss as they did not get any option for the questions as in every question one of the two was from the second term,” the professor said.
According to the professor, the college would file a written complaint to the examination department of the UoP on Wednesday. Sources said this has happened for the second time in case of MA part II (English) paper. “Two years back, the same thing had happened. There is every possibility that this year’s paper-setter might have blindly followed that paper,” they said.
