Viral video of rats on oxygen pipes of UP’s Gonda Medical College ward sparks outrage: ‘Indians are treated as dogs..’

A video of several rats seen moving freely around patients’ beds, across the floor, and near oxygen pipelines in the orthopaedic ward of Gonda Medical College in Uttar Pradesh has triggered outrage on social media, raising concerns over hygiene and patient safety.

The video, reportedly recorded by a patient, shows rodents scurrying openly while other patients lie on their beds in the background.

Sharing the video on X, Harish Sharma, a journalist, wrote, “In the ortho ward of Gonda Medical College, the doctors may be arriving late, but the rats are scurrying around quickly and comfortably, making their way from the oxygen pipes to the patients’ beds.”

“After the video went viral, the DM has ordered the medical administration to carry out pest control spraying; the rats are spoiling the patients’ food by eating it,” Sharma added.

After the video went viral, Gonda District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan sought an explanation from the medical college principal, Professor Dhananjay Shrikant Kotastane, and ordered immediate corrective measures, Free Press Journal reported. Acting on the directive, the hospital administration conducted pest control spraying in the orthopaedics ward as well as other sections of the hospital.

The video sparked outrage among netizens, with users raising safety concerns. “Indians are treated as dogs & goats within India. If you are poor, you will be treated like a dog. If you are middle class or high class, you will be shown some green grass & asked to pay hefty to stay safe or else be ready for a knife cut,” a user wrote.

“When the public, instead of voting on issues that concern them..votes on religion, electoral bribes, foolishness, lies, debauchery, rowdyism, thuggery, ignorance, and cunning, then this is exactly what they’ll get. They still won’t understand. They still won’t vote on their own issues,” another user commented.
