A unified mission but myriads of expressions, that is precisely what The Maiden Strokes is all about. A painting exhibition put together by WE- a group of upcoming female artists, there are 36 works on display at the Government Museum and Art Gallery- Sector 10. The artists are Ashpreet Kaur, Sumeet Kaur, Navneeta, Sonia Sharma, Manpreet Kaur, Priya, Sonam, Maninderjeet, Prabhjot Kaur, Manvir Kaur, Himanshi Vij and Jaswinder who render explorations in brush and paint of themes like blossom, woman and child, durga et al.
There are some common motifs like kites, trees, footprints and flowers explored in different perspectives. While there are colourful kites that rise to a yellow sky of spirituality, there are those that make up for leaves. Durga features in its true avatar and as a symbol. A woman finds herself in a fairytale, while another adorns her tresses with a flower. The mother and child motif comes alive in a realistic treatment while the theme of bride burning throws light on the another side of reality. Also, the floral patterns are in plenty with lotus, sunflowers and daisies forming capturing different parts of the frame. Colours become the main players in several frames with red playing its fieriness in a large vertical painting, green rules the persona, tears and life of a woman while another one shares the protagonists.
On at Government Museum and Art Gallery- Sector 10 till October 10
