DERA BASSI, Sept 22: With the arrest of two persons from different parts of the township, the local police claimed to have solved several cases of gambling and liquor smuggling.
The arrested, who have been identified as Ved Prakash Gupta and Ravinder Singh, are the residents of Mubarakpur under the Dera Bassi police station. While Ved Parkash allegedly was involved in running satta in the area, Ravinder was nabbed for smuggling liquor.
Dera Bassi SHO Jassa Singh said that the police, following a tip of, had set up a naka last night and the two were nabbed in action.
The police recovered Rs 5,500 from Ved Prakash and 144 pouches of country made liquor were recovered from Ravinder Singh, he said.
Meanwhile, an open darbar was held today at Dhanaoni and Doran villages simultaneously. The darbar was held for an on the spot redressal of crime related grievances of the villagers. The meeting was attended by 75 village sarpanches, panches and political leaders.
The local police claimed to have solved the long pending dispute between the Harijans and Jat Sikhs of Dhanaoni village. The Jat Sikhs had boycotted the Harijans following humiliating defeat in the panchayat elections. The officials said that the Jat Sikhs had agreed to withdraw the boycott call and decided to resolve all the disputes amicably.
