PUNE, Dec 16: A sense of guilt pervades his mind. He feels if only he had left his motorcycle for his elder brother, the tragedy would not have taken place.
Tragedy struck the Risbud family of Sarthak Apartments in Rambaug Colony at Paud Phata, Kothrud yesterday evening. The Risbud couple and their six-year- old son lost their lives when their scooter went rolling down into a valley on the Sinhagad road. The bodies of the couple, Sanjeev Shriniwas Risbud 33, his wife Sayali 27, and their son Aditya were recovered from the valley last night. Sanjeev and Sayali were celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary, yesterday.
They decided to spend the day at the fort. On their way back at 5.30 p.m., the scooter8217;s brakes failed. Sanjeev apparently lost control over the vehicle at a sharp turn and the three hurtled down the valley. Sanjeev8217;s brother Rajeev is inconsolable. 8220;He Sanjeev had told me that he was going to Sinhagad yesterday. I asked him to take the motorcycle. I left early for the work the next day. It hardly struck me that I was to leave the motorcycle for him,8221; recalled Rajeev in a choked voice. His friends tell him it is not his fault. As Sanjeev had not returned until late in the evening, Rajeev sent a message on the pager. By this time, the police had recovered the bodies and were at the Sassoon Hospital. The police asked him to visit the hospital after which Rajeev learnt about the mishap.
Sanjeev was working with a private finance company for cars, while his wife was a school teacher. Sanjeev had earlier decided to take Rajeev and his mother to celebrate their anniversary. He went to work in the morning. He came back early and the family left for Sinhagad. His seniors at the office had advised him not to go to by scooter and asked him to take the bus. Sanjeev had visited the fort along with his friends on several occasions, Rajeev said.
