8220;I don8217;t think theatre has to be elitist, although that may be the common impression. And the economics of theatre suffers because it attracts only a select audience,8221; says Sanjana Kapoor, who runs the Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai started by her parents, actors Shashi and Jennifer Kapoor. Kapoor was in Pune to conduct the first session of a drama workshop at a leading kindergarten, on October 16 and 17.

8220;It8217;s very fulfilling, working with children and theatre is brilliant for building confidence in kids, but it8217;s also a way of creating a future audience for theatre,8221; says Kapoor. In a further bid to improve non-elitist audiences, the Prithvi actors have come up with an inspiring idea. Every first Saturday of the month, they perform at Horniman Circle opposite Asiatic Library in Mumbai, where a heterogeneous crowd of corporate bosses, subordinates, wage-earners and strollers can avail of some dramatic entertainment. Kudos to Kapoor for her unflagging involvement with theatre.
