NEW DELHI, JAN 22: The Tamil Nadu Government has challenged in the Supreme Court a Madras High Court order discharging former chief minister and AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha in the controversial Tamil Nadu Small Industries Corporation TANSI land deal case.

The State in a special leave petition has submitted that the HC has discharged Jayalalitha without appreciating the material evidence against her in the case. The petition filed on Friday is likely to be listed for hearing next week.

The HC on January 13 had discharged the former chief minister holding that there was no evidence to send her to trial even though the prosecution maintained that there were strong evidence against her in the case. Justice S Thangaraj had allowed a revision petition by Jayalalitha questioning the trial judge8217;s order framing charges against her for buying land and buildings belonging to the State-owned TANSI in 1992 in the name of a partnership firm.
