Ticket checking: Record earning in Pune division

The Pune Division of Central Railway earned Rs 277 lakh by catching almost 73,000 unauthorised persons traveling in trains up to November 2008.

The Pune Division of Central Railway earned Rs 277 lakh by catching almost 73,000 unauthorised persons traveling in trains up to November 2008. Last year in same period the railway earned Rs 234 lakhs by nabbing 69000 unauthorised persons. The ticket checking earning has increased by 18 from the last financial year. Various ticket checking drives conducted all over the Pune division for catching without ticket, without platform ticket, unbooked luggage cases. The number of cases of irregular/ticektless travellers 52,053 in 2007 and 56,972 in 2008 up to November. The fine realised Rs 220.5 lakh in 2007 and Rs 263 lakh in 2008 up to November. Fine realised from unbooked luggage 140.5 lakh in 2007 and Rs 143 lakh in 2008 up to November, stated Y K Singh, a railway official.

Mahambare passes away Noted Marathi poet and lyricist Gangadhar Mahambare expired on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 77. Mahambare is known for the lyrics Sandhikali ya ashya among others. His book Moulik Marathi Chitrageete fetched him the National Award for the best book on cinema in 2002.
