VADODARA, Aug 25: The Panchmahals district police arrested three person on charges of attempt to kill an Ahhedabad-based taxi driver and take away his vehicle on Monday night. According to reports the trio include a suspended police constable of J P Road Police Station and two bootleggers.

According to police, the three accused hired a taxi GJ-1-U-2129 for Rs 450 from Ahmedabad and went to Dakor in Kheda district on Monday. After a one-hour halt in Dakor they asked the driver, Nasir Hussain Faizumiyan Malik, to drive them to Sevaliya in Panchmahals district, where the suspended constable Arvind Babar Patel8217;s wife had apparently gone. They assured Malik an additional Rs 200 for the trip.

At Sevaliya the three went to Hotel Janpath and told the driver to call up his family to inform that he would return late in the night. An unsuspecting Malik was taken aback when asked to make a trip back after dusk.

Near Mahisagar bridge one of the accused asked him to stop and while Harkesh, alias Mohan Baldev Rathod, and Raju Baburao Ahir got off, Patel, sitting beside Malik, tried to strangulate him. Ahir and Harkesh also joined Patel soon. The driver was however saved when sarpanch of Timba village, Gopalbhai, reached the spot in time with his colleagues and caught all trio, who tried to flee the spot.

The miscreants were handed over to Timba police outpost. The police unearthed a knife and a nylon rope from the bag they were carrying. A case has been registered against them.
