Parents, members of the NSUI and the Shiv Sena protested in front of Alok School Sansthana, a school in Udaipur, following the death of a Class XII student on Thursday morning.
Arpit Kavadia allegedly died of serious injuries which he sustained on July 26 after he was beaten up by Indra Samar, a Sanskrit teacher of the school. According to his relatives, Kavadia was beaten up as he had refused to obey the teacher8217;s command of keeping his legs under the table. They said he had hurt his knee and could not fold his legs. 8220;He had a test that day and Samar was supervising. When she noticed that he was sitting with his legs stretched outside the bench, she asked him to sit properly. When he said he was in pain, she started hitting him with a cane-stick. She hit him hard on the chest,8221; said Pritam Kavadia, a relative. Kavadia, however, attended school for the next two days.
On Monday, he complained of severe chest pain and was admitted to the General Hospital. He also underwent a minor surgery where the doctors removed blood clots from his lung. But his condition failed to improve and he died on Thursday morning.
Following his death, Kavadia8217;s parents filed a police complaint against Samar. As news of his death spread, hundreds of parents and members of the local units of Shiv Sena and NSUI gathered at the school demanding stern action against the school authorities.
A post-mortem has already been conducted and the police have filed a case against Samar under Section 302 of the IPC. 8220;Prima facie the death seems to be caused by some lung infection and the doctors have also noticed bruises on his arms and chest. However, samples of his lung have been sent for an autopsy and only a detailed post- mortem report can ascertain the cause of death,8221; said Yogesh Gupta, the Investigating Officer.
According to the police, the school authorities claimed that Kavadia had met with an accident after the July 26 incident and had probably died due to complications arising out of it. Despite several attempts, director of the school Pradeep Kumar Kumavat could not be contacted.
