Jay Sean on constantly pushing the boundaries in music
After a groovy performance to a packed house at the Hard Rock Cafeacute; on a Wednesday night, rhythm and bass singer Jay Sean was at Planet M, Phoenix Mills, on Thursday evening to release his latest CD, My Own Way. It was blink-and-miss, as Sean was hustled onto the mini stage at Planet M by his agents. Avid fans had already queued up to see their idol and were obviously very excited as he took the mike.
Sean started with Ride It Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai from his new album. Using his usual mix of R038;B and Hindi lyrics, Sean8217;s CD seems promising. He was joined on stage by a 8216;beat-boxing8217; friend who added vital punctuations to Sean8217;s singing and rapping.
The album, which is Sean8217;s second, was to have released late last year as collaboration between his own label Jayded and 2Point9 Records. But it took longer when radio stations in UK decided to playlist the songs if the release was delayed till 2008. So after nearly two years away from the limelight, Sean is back.
The 25-year-old, Britain-born Sikh rapper shot to fame in 2003 with hit singles like Dance with you and Eyes on You, collaborations with fellow artists Rishi Rich and Juggy D under the Virgin Records banner. The songs that could be classified as Punjabi R038;B weren8217;t very different from what he has on offer now.
8220;I8217;m very excited about this album and have wanted to do something in India for a while now,8221; says Sean who was visibly pleased with the response to his concert in Mumbai the previous night. Sean confesses he got some help to write the lyrics for his songs. And will he be diversifying into other genres of music too? 8220;Well we are constantly experimenting, constantly trying to push the boundaries with what we can do.8221;
