Top 10 busiest international flight routes in January 2026: Amid global headwinds, the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) latest outlook report projects that international airlines will transport a record 5.2 billion passengers in 2026.

The report reveals that global passenger traffic is forecast to climb 4.9 per cent year-over-year, with Asia-Pacific Airlines leading the surge at a robust 7.3 per cent.

Official Airline Guide (OAG) data further notes Asia’s stronghold in aviation, with the region occupying eight of the world’s top 10 busiest international routes in January 2026.

Hong Kong (HKG) appears thrice in the Top 10 – more than any other airport. The Hong Kong to Taipei (TPE) route retains its position as the busiest international airline route globally, with over 552,000 seats as of January 2026.

Hong Kong to Manila (MNL), in eighth place with 366,000 seats, reflects an impressive 25 per cent increase in airline capacity, making it the fastest-growing route in the top 10.

Meanwhile, there are two routes in the Middle East at the top (Cairo–Jeddah and Dubai–Riyadh, with Cairo (CAI) to Jeddah (JED) retaining second place with over 522,000 seats, and recording a strong growth of 12 per cent.

Seoul Incheon (ICN) to Tokyo Narita (NRT) has moved into third place with over 498,000 seats, up nine per cent compared to January 2026.

OAG further noted that the Mumbai-Delhi route (BOM-DEL) ranks sixth among the world’s busiest domestic flight routes, carrying 704,747 passengers in January 2026, and making it the busiest Indian flight route.
