Tanna downs Kulkarni to advance into second round

MUMBAI, May 18: Krishne Tanna, seeded No 6, moved into the second round of the boys8217; under-14 in the SK Pandit Memorial Adidas AITA Junior Zonal tennis tournament at Dadar Club today.

The 13-year-old defeated state-mate Shashank Kulkarni Mah 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in a first-round match. Tanna fought back from 1-4 down in the first set to even scores at 4-4. He then went 5-4 up before losing the next three games. After winning the second set, he trailed 0-2 but fought back to win the next four games in the decider.

Though Kulkarni managed to break serve once, Tanna stayed ahead and won the set 7-5 and with it the match.
