As the new V Vaithilingam government in Puducherry faced flak for postponing Teachers8217; Day celebrations, the B C Khanduri Government in Uttarakhand also got a rap from the Union HRD Ministry for the inordinate delay in recommending names of teachers for the National Teachers8217; Awards. While the last date for sending in names was December 31, 2007, the Uttarakhand Government needed a string of reminders from the Centre to send in nine names just two days before September 5, when the President gave away the awards. Due to the delay, the state8217;s teachers, who were informed at the last minute, had to make their own arrangements to reach the capital on time.
