Surat girl champion
A 10-year-old city student, Shrishti Sharma, stood first in the Gujarat sub-junior gymnastic championship held here recently. She will represent the State in the national sub-junior competition. The M C D Higher Secondary School authorities, where she studies, and the Gymnastic Association have congratulated Sharma.

Suicide
Former Congress Municipal Councillor from the Tadwadi-Rander area, Raman B Patel 50 died in the Parijat Hospital on Tuesday. According to the police, Patel had consumed poison and was under treatment in the hospital since October 25. Though the reason for the extreme step could not be ascertained, the Rander police have registered a case under CrPC 174 and are investigating further.

Convention
A National convention for blind women was organised by the Andhjan Shikshan Mandal recently. A number of opthalmologists from India and abroad, along with 100 delegates from all over the country, participated in the convention. Several ways to improve the condition of blind people were discussed at the convention.

SGU closed
The South Gujarat University will remain closed from October 5 to October 15 for Diwali.
