Students snatch purse, arrested

Two students of a local public school, both 15 years old and from reputed families, were arrested today for allegedly snatching a purse from a woman in Sector 27 on Thursday night.

Two students of a local public school, both 15 years old and from reputed families, were arrested today for allegedly snatching a purse from a woman in Sector 27 on Thursday night. Working on a tip-off, the crime branch of the Chandigarh Police nabbed the accused from Manimajra and also impounded the scooter reportedly used in the crime.

Officials claim the students had snatched the purse from a Sector-19 resident, Shikha, while she was near the Motiram School in Sector 27.

8220;After committing the crime, the duo went to Fun Republic and ordered pizzas and burgers where they spent nearly Rs 3,000. They, later, went to a shop in Manimajra and bought sports shoes. They also got the Kinetic Honda scooter refilled with petrol through the debit card of Shikha,8221; said an official with the crime branch.

According to the police, the students were on the prowl again before they were nabbed. One of the accused is the son of an officer in the Punjab Irrigation department while the other is the son of a local court advocate.

8220;The parents said they were not aware of their children8217;s activities . The parents used to give them good amount of pocket money,8221; said sources in the police.

The accused, meanwhile, admitted: 8220;We had plans to commit two to three snatchings today. Our morale was high after yesterday8217;s snatching. We threw the bag near Manimajra after taking out the ATM cards and cash. We had decided to snatch purses from girls late in the evening.8221;
