Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa sent a letter to her Karnataka counterpart S.M. Krishna asking him to take steps to scotch all speculations implicating the Tamil Nadu STF for Nagappa8217;s death.
8216;8216;The hunt for Veerappan should be our only objective and nothing should stand in the way of it,8217;8217; she said. 8216;8216;Nothing must be done to fuel speculation at a moment when our energies should be directed at a joint operation.8217;8217;
She referred to reports of the recovery of a body of Karnataka STF constable on December 10, and contended that it pointed to the Karnataka STF8217;s combing operations just prior to Nagappa8217;s death.
Krishna and Karnataka Home Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge today denied blaming the Tamil Nadu STF for Nagappa8217;s death.
The former minister8217;s family suggested that a 8216;8216;third party8217;8217;, apart from the STF and the bandit might be involved in his murder. They said the government was never serious about rescuing him.
Nagappa8217;s son Preetham said the family will approach President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for a CBI probe. 8216;8216;We will not rest till the truth is exposed and ensure that the culprits are punished,8217;8217; he said.
8216;8216;How can you trust the police or STF when they have not bothered to look for evidence at the spot in the Chengadi forests even two days after the funeral,8217;8217; he asked.
