VADODARA, NOV 28: An inspector and a constable of the Pani Gate police station sustained minor injuries when a police party that went to confiscate a scooter allegedly used in a crime was stoned by a mob.

The policemen, led by Inspector S.G. Chaudhary, had gone to the Kishanwadi area on Sunday afternoon on learning that the scooter was parked behind the house of one Raman Painter. The scooter had been used by the accused in Friday8217;s murder of a Central Industrial Security Force CISF jawan, Ashok Kumar. However, a mob assembled and objected to the seizure of the scooter.

While Chaudhary was trying to convince the mob, someone lobbed a stone, and soon the mob was pelting stones. The inspector and a constable were injured.Police then made a lathi-charge to disperse the mob. No one was injured in the police action.

A case of rioting has been registered against Raman Painter and some others, but no arrests have been made.

Kumar was allegedly killed by one Dipak and an accomplice Prakash after a quarrel the brother of the deceased, Ramesh, had with his neighbour Mahesh Patel.

Ramesh had lodged a complaint about it with the police. This was resented by Mahesh who then rushed to the house of Ramesh and started abusing his family members. When Kumar was on his way to make a call to the police about the misbehaviour of Mahesh, the latter8217;s friends Deepak and Prakashallegedly assaulted him with a sword. Ashok died in hospital.
