Five killed, 15 injured in Orissa road accident

BERHAMPUR: AT least five people, including a woman, were killed and 15 injured when an Orissa Road Transport Corporation bus dashed against a loaded stationary truck near Langeswar village on National Highway Number 5, about 70 km from here on Sunday. The victims included the conductor of the bus and a student of the Digapahandi College. Sources said while seven of the seriously injured were admitted to the MKGG Medical College Hospital here, four were taken to the S C B Medical College Hospital, Cuttack. The rest were released after being given first aid at the Balugaon Hospital. The bus which was going from Cuttack to Kashipur had about 45 to 50 passengers at the time of the mishap. The police have arrested the bus driver.

100 fall sick after eating prasada

SILIGURI: Over a hundred devotees including 26 children fell sick after consuming prasada at Rathkhola here on Sunday night, the officials said. Altogether 86 people including 25children were admitted to Siliguri sub-divisional hospital following complaints of uneasiness, headache and stomach disorder. Hospital superintendent Dr Vijoy Thapa said that six more patients were admitted on Monday morning with the same symptoms. The host, Sanjoy Dutta who performed the puja with his family members on Saturday, is also admitted in the same hospital.

Man murders wife with sickle

NASHIK: A sixty-year-old labourer murdered his wife with a sickle and later injured himself while attempting to kill himself with the same weapon at Kalika Mandir area on Sunday night. Police sources said Ghansham Waghmare, an alcholic, used to frequently quarrel with his wife Rupabai 55 when she would deny giving him money to buy liquor. On Sunday, after one such quarrel, he took the sickle and killed her and later attempted suicide, sources informed. The police when informed rushed to the spot to find the couple laying in a pool of blood. Meanwhile, Ghansham has been admitted to the general hospital.
