LUCKNOW, May 31: Sonia Gandhi has spurned all offers to join active politics made by various Congress leaders. Contrary to media reports she has not been made PCC member from Gauriganj block of Sultanpur district under Amethi Parliamentary constituency, according to UPCC sources.Though Uttar Pradesh Congressmen, particularly those of Sultanpur, have offered her to become a PCC member from there and an over-enthusiast district returning offcer had also enrolled her name on his own but Sonia has maintained a silence so far.Unmoved by her silence, her ardent supporters in the district have now entrusted the responsibility for persuading her to get enrolled on local MP, Captain Satish Sharma and have willingly offered that all nominations down to block level congress committees would be cleared by Sharma or Sonia.The ostensible reason offered by state Congress office bearers for witholding the list of party from Sultanpur being that local Congressmen were still hopeful that Sonia would take a plunge in active politics from the pocket borough of Gandhi family.State Congress leaders also ruled out that Sonia could not become a PCC member from Sultanpur since she has assumed primary membership of the party from New Delhi.``There is no violation of the party constitution if she decides to become a PCC member from here even as she is the primary member from New Delhi,'' Dr Ramesh Dixit, party spokesman, told The Indian Express.
