Mumbai, Oct 2: Somaiya Arts and Commerce will clash with Jhunjhunwala in the final of the Inter-Collegiate Basketball tournament. In the semi-finals at the Indian Gymkhana today, Jhunjhunwala, the defending champions, trounced NM Commerce 68-25. But Somaiya and last year’s runner-up Xavier’s made up for the drab first match by serving a sizzler. Somaiya eventually won by a wafer-thin 75-74 margin, after the game was tied 71-71 with 24 seconds to go.

Amit More and Nilesh Jadhav scored 35 and 25 points for the winning team.

Rizvi beat MMK

Altaf Shaikh’s fine spell (four for 23) helped Rizvi College beat MMK by 10 wickets in the Under-19 final of the DSO (suburbs) Inter-school crickettournament, for the CK Nayadu Trophy, at Fort Vijay, Azad Maidan, today.Electing to bat first on a wicket rendered lively by overnight rains, MMK were bundled out for 53. Altaf received support from Imran Baig (2-14). The Rizvi openers, Amol Sisodiya (20 not out) and Imran Khan (31 not out), knocked off the required runs without any ado.

CITY MEET: The CK Nayadu Trophy tournament for city schools and colleges begins at The Oval on October 4. All interested colleges are requested to assemble at the venue. The Vinoo Mankad (Under-16) and Under-14 tournaments will begin on October 5 and 6 rexpectively.

Stephen ‘tricks

Stephen Menezes scored a hat-trick as Catholic Gymkhana defeated Sachivalaya Gymkhana 3-0 in the first division match of the WIFA Football League at Cooperage. In the other match, Bombay Muslima won 2-1 against Young Boys. Shambu and Bashir netted for the winners while Sauiad Ahmed reduced the margin for the losers.

Air-India held

Nester’s Compound held WIFA SuperLeague champions, Air-India 3-3 in the Our Lady of Egypt Church Sports Committee organised Kalina Football league at the St. Mary’s High School, Kalina today.

Khalsa Gymkhana won 3-1 against Borivli Rangers in the MDFA conducted football league match at the Xavier’s ground, Parel. Rajesh Kohran, 2 and Aditya Menon scored for Rangers while PratikNarkar reduced the margin.
