
A noble cause
The Rotary Club of Pune Riverside donated buffaloes to the inmates of Janseva, an old-age home, at a function held on November 8. A shed was also built for the buffaloes. The Rotary Club will give Rs 30,000 every year to the foundation for the upkeep of the buffaloes and the shed. Divisional commissioner Arun Bhatia was the chief guest at the function.
Youth day celebrated
Koregaon Park experienced a cool, happy and young Sunday. Ask why? Well, it was all about youngsters gathering for making new friends, discussing, sharing lives, opinions, coming face to face with knowing more about God, money, media and YOURSELF. They were all playing games, singing songs, experimenting different methods of interacting with each others. This was a very different kind of fest 8211; of around 250 to 300 young students from the city 8211; Youth Fest 98, a Pune Diocesan Youth Day organised by Don Bosco Youth Centre, Koregaon Park. After enjoying delicious food, panel discussions, tournaments and campfire, the session finally concluded on foot-tapping with city band Jet Set.
In their Sunday best
St Paul8217;s Sunday School, Pune walked away with the YMCA trophy in the Inter-Sunday School competitions organised by the Pune YMCA as a part of the World Sunday School Day celebrations. The campus Bible Club, Bibewadi, won the runner-up trophy. The prizes were given away by principal Jayanth Kumar Tribhuvan at a function held at the Shanti Sunder hall of the YMCA. More than 250 students from various Sunday schools in the city took part in the competition.
Girls just wanna have fun!
They all gathered in a cheerful and happy mood to enjoy the most crazy day in Oracle Institute of Fashion Designing in Aurora Towers on Monday. For them it was not just a day to do crazy things, well they had a reason for it. The idea behind was creativity through crazy things and many more activities. They freaked out painting their faces not only in various colours but with various themes as well. While the American president8217;s scandal of the century was painted on one face with US flag, the other pretty face of a cat was not really scary for the rats out there. Blue hair and aluminium foils inside were adding their grace to the event. And finally how could they stop themselves from dancing on the tunes of Backstreet Boys? After all it was a crazy time for them!
Verses to cure stress
The Software Frontiers Limited has launched Saundaryalahari, a compilation of verses written by Adi Shankaracharya in the eight century, on a CD-ROM, compact disc and audio cassettes. According to the promoters of the CD-ROM, the poems give the listener an opportunity to discover cures for urban stress and claustrophobia. The product is priced at Rs 1,499 for the CD-ROM, Rs 599 for the CD and Rs 150 for the audio tape.
Award for topper
A new award has been instituted for the girls of FYBA of St Mira8217;s College. The award has been instituted by R K Joshi in the memory of his mother Jaswanti Joshi. The award will be given to the topper of the FYBA every year.
A fine display
The Hutchings High school and Junior college held its annual Athletic Meet and Torch Light Tattoo recently. Brig Madan Gopal, Commander, Pune Sub-area was the chief guest. A panoramic unfolding of Indian cultural heritage and other topical issues were the themes taken up by the various school houses in their displays.
