View from the rear
There are certain stories that need to be told, if not as the exact reflection of the bitter reality of life, then as a work of fiction. Trying to find his feet in the literary world, Aditya Kriplani makes his debut with Backseat, a book which traces the struggles of a bar dancer after she loses her job. After its recent launch in Mumbai, the book was launched in Pune on December 21. The launch also saw relatives and well-wishers reading out some striking passages from the story, which at places, uses a sharp language to tell the truth about the protagonist8217;s life. For Kriplani, a professional screenplay writer, writing a novel is something that he8217;s passionate about. 8220;I always wanted to tell stories my way, contrary to what I do when I write a screenplay, where the story is highly modeled,8221; says the writer. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai, the 300-odd page novel, touches upon the complexities of Mumbai, which welcomes small town innocence only to see it getting lost amidst the callousness of the materialistic world and ultimately leaving a question mark on the present day relativity of good old moral values to humankind.
A special effort
While the fun and frenzy of Christmas has gripped everyone, the city seems to have begun advance celebrations. Recently, the Oakwood Residence on Naylor Road celebrated Christmas with the children of the NGO Prayatna. Spearheaded by Radiya Gandhi, the team of Prayatna works for the upkeep, rehabilitation and education of children and adults with learning disabilities. 8220;Our children had a fantastic time and a lovely Christmas with Santa and the staff of Oakwood. The entire senior team spent quality time with 20 of our blessed children, playing games and sharing gifts with them,8221; said Gandhi. The special children played various games and participated in activities like singing carols and story telling by Santa Claus, along with a magic.
Festivities and fun
As the Yuletide season grips the city and reds and greens become the most prominently seen colours, the party spirit comes calling to engulf one and all. Organizing a Christmas party in its premises, the day care centre of Poona Women8217;s Council saw its children and their parents ushering in Christmas fervour in full enthusiasm. This more than 80 year old council, which works extensively in education, health and family welfare sectors, had organised the party to infuse the celebration mood in children.
Amidst lively carols and games, the tastefully decorated Christmas tree added a glow to the evening. And as it8217;s well-known, no party can be complete without the dash of Bollywood thumkas; the children were seen shaking a leg to famous Bollywood numbers spontaneously. Later on, members of the administration council also distributed Christmas gifts among the little angels.
