Tendulkar8217;s modesty came to the fore during the talk when he said, 8220;I am just a cricketer. My contribution is not even 1/10th of our jawans. I played in a football match a couple of days ago and felt proud to help the jawans8221;, he said.

MUMBAI: Indian cricket board BCCI chief Raj Singh Dungarpur said the BCCI wanted to know from three members of the World Cup team about the contents of their post-Cup comments to the media and it was a routine enquiry.
8220;It is just a regular enquiry to see what the boys Robin Singh, Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid have told the press. Nothing more should be read into it,8221; Dungarpursaid.
Hooper too costly
ADELAIDE: Former West Indies batsman Carl Hooper is expected to seek an English County cricket contract after a deal with South Australia broke down over money.
South Australia8217;s cricket manager Greg Chappell said Sheffield Shield rules governing pay rates meant the state team could not afford Hooper, who lives in Adelaide with his Australian wife.
Under the agreement, the most a state player on a top-level contract can be paid is A40,000 with match payments bringing the total to A70,000 US46,000.
Eden inquiry
CALCUTTA: A division bench of Calcutta High Court comprising acting Chief Justice S B Sinha and Justice M H S Ansari today directed the West Bengal Government to institute a one-man inquiry committee to probe the police excesses on the spectators of India-Pakistan cricket Test match at Eden Gardens in Februrary this year.
The bench also directed police and Cricket Association of Bengal to take precautionary measures so that such incidents could beaverted.
