CHENNAI, JANUARY 13: N Siva and K R Subbayan of the DMK were today declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu in the by-elections to two seats.

The by-elections were necessitated following the deaths of R K Kumar AIADMK and T M Venkatachalam MGR ADMK.

Theirs were the only valid nominations at the time of scrutiny on January 11.

After the time for withdrawal was over today, the election officer, V Rajaraman, announced that Siva and Subbayan declared had been elected unopposed.

With the election of Siva and Subbayan, the strength of the DMK in the Rajya Sabha has gone upto eight.

Kumar died of a heart attack while Venkatachalam died in hospital after being injured in a road accident.
