
CHANDIGARH, July 1: The closing ceremony of Shramdan-1999 was held at the Regulator end of the Sukhna Lake this morning. The UT Home Secretary, who is president of the Save Sukhna Society was chief guest.
According to an official estimate, a total of 20.10 lakh cubic feet of silt was removed through mechanical shramdan while 8,500 cubic feet of silt was cleared manually. Jain gave away prizes to the winners of the essay competition organised among different schools of the Union Territory.
Narinder Kumar Goyal Memor ial Trophy was bagged by Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 8-B. Commendation certificates were also presented to 43 shramdanis for their voluntary contribution in manual shramdan. Following are the merit-wise results of Narinder Kumar Goyal Memorial Essay Competition:
For Class XI and XII: Reshmim Negi of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 8; Harshan Walia of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8; and Ranu of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21-A.
In Class IX and X category: Rajni Chauhan of Government High School, Sector 7-C; Maninder Kaur of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 8-B; and Aniket Prasoon of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8-B.
In Class VI and VII category: Neetu Rani, Sarika and Ritu of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 8-B.
Consolation prize goes to Lata of Govt Senior Secondary School, Sector 8-B.
