Young opener Wajahatullah Wasti struck an unbeaten 80 and raised a fine 105-run second-wicket stand with teenaged debutant Imran Nazir (64) to guide Pakistan to a strong 192 for three wickets on a rain-marred opening day of the Asian Test Championship tie against Sri Lanka in Lahore on Thursday.

Double for Tara
It was S K Tara’s day. The top seed won the double crown at the Reynolds AITA All-India (National) Women’s Tennis Tournament in Kochi. Tara won the singles event overpowering Jasleen Randhawa 6-0, 6-0 of Punab and later she combined with Sumitra Rao to beat Nikhila Natarajan and Jasleen 6-1, 6-1.

Top seed Vijay Kannan (Del) survived a scare from qualifier Meenakshi Sundaram (TN) to make it to the last four while other seeded players had a comparatively easy time in quarter-final matches of the Goldflake Aces Tour tennis championship in Chennai on Thursday. Kannan managed to prevail 6-2 1-6 7-5.
