Punjab avenged the humiliating defeat they suffered at the hands of Himachal Pradesh in the one-day match of the North Zone Ranji Trophy here by registering an authoritative innings and 16-run victory against the hosts in the four-day competition with two full days to spare in Mandi today.

Sehwag hits ton
Virender Sehwag made his maiden trip to the batting crease in a Ranji Trophy match a memorable one as he struck a powerful 118 to guide Delhi to a 160-run lead against Haryana on the second day of the North Zone league match at Vaish College grounds in Rohtak today. Haryana had made 139 in their first innings.

Srinath in final
Johan Hede fought a valiant battle in the semifinals of the GVK Satellite tournament in today. Down by a set, the fourth seeded Swede staged a magnificent fightback against top seed Prahlad Srinath and did not give up hope until he went down in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6. Srinath may have overcome Hede, but he has yet another Swede standing between him and the second Satellite title. He is Federico Rovai, the second seed, who disposed of German Patrick Erhardt 6-2, 6-1.
