  • THE Vintage and Classic Car Club of India will be conducting the Castrol-Vintage & Classic rally on January 11 at Flora Fountain. More than 25 cars are expected to participate in the annual event which has been divided into four categories – Vintage (vehicles built before 1940) and Classics (vehicles built between 1940-60). The cars that have entered so far include a 1903 Humber and a 1922 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost.
  • As many as 22 prizes are in store, including those for the oldest vehicles and for period costumes. Entries should be forwarded to Nitin Dossa, Nanabhai Mansion, Fourth floor, PM Road, Mumbai 1 or at Tel: 2660661/2660390 or Fax: 2663375. Last date for receiving entries is January 2 and January 7 with a late entry fee.

    Pix junior squash tournament

  • THE Pix Junior Squash Open and Doubles Championship will be held at the Otters Club from January 28 to 31. A total prize-money of Rs 1.25 lakh will be at stake. The four-day tournament will have three categories: under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-19 for both singles and doubles.

    Carrom tourney from Jan 11

  • GSBS Sports Club, alongwith the Mumbai District Carrom Association, will be conducting the L&T District Level carrom tournament from January 11 at the GSBS Sports Club. A full day event for the physically handicapped will also be held on January 18. Entries will be accepted at the club office on RA Kidwai Rd, King’s Circle, next to SNDT College latest by January 3.
  • Lankan veterans to visit India

  • INDIAN veterans will play a five-match one-day cricket series at home against their Sri Lankan counterparts form April 14 to 23 next year.
  • The general secretary of the Veterans Cricket Association of India RS Pareek said here today the Sri Lankan association has confirmed the islanders’ visit and the itinerary of the series would be decided on January 5.

    Lankan team: Duleep Mendis, Roy Dias, D S de Silva, Lalith Kaluperuma, Sidath Wettimuny, Asantha de Mel, Saliya Ahangama, Amal Silva, Guy be Alwis, Roger Wigesuriya, Asoka de Silva, R Madurasinghe, Gemini Silva, D Ranatunge, B Kuruppu, Romesh Ratnayake and H Mendis.

    Mumbai University cricket trials

  • Selection trials for the University of Mumbai men’s cricket team will be held on December 31 and January 1.
  • Colleges should nominate players who are not full-time employees for the trials on forms available at the University Sports section on or before December 30. Timings and the venue of the trials will be informed later.
