3 Blinkit delivery agents held for ‘ruckus in public’

Hours after a video that surfaced online showed three Blinkit delivery agents purportedly involved in a public brawl over a dispute on deliveries, the Vadodara city police arrested the three accused while initiating a probe into the “credentials” of the Blinkit warehouse and its employees in the area.

Identified as Hitesh Gandhi (43), Prafful Patel (48) and Mohammad Firoz Malik (22), the three Blinkit executives were seen involved in a fist fight in a video, while still wearing their branded delivery bags on their backs. Police Inspector MR Sangada of Atladara police station said, “The three were involved in a disagreement and created a ruckus in public. As the video was shared, the police inquired with the Blinkit warehouse in the jurisdiction and identified the accused. A process to initiate their arrest was undertaken under Section 170 of Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita… At the same time, the document verification of the lease of the Blinkit warehouse and other such matters concerning the staff has also been undertaken by ascertaining if the manager in-charge has followed the procedure.”

The police added that in their statement the three men said that the “internal conflicts” between delivery riders over “orders” had led to the public fight. “The incident disturbed the peace and order of the area and therefore action, as per the provisions of law, was initiated”. Section 170 of BNSS empowers the police to arrest to prevent commission of cognizable offences, without orders from a Magistrate and without a warrant.
