AT LEAST three students of a private school in Ahmedabad were injured after they were allegedly assaulted by a group of nine other students – also minors – from more than one school in the vicinity. The incident took place on Monday after an examination, police said.
The brawl, which took place just outside the school premises, was captured on CCTV and footage shows the group of students purportedly fighting with sticks. This was a fallout of an earlier incident – an argument between one student from each side, police said.
A police team soon reached the spot and began an investigation. All the 12 minors involved in the alleged altercation were identified. While the three students of this particular school who suffered injuries were dispatched to the hospital for treatment by the school administration, the other nine were detained, said a police officer.
ACP JD Brahmbhatt of ‘A’ Division of Ahmedabad City Police confirmed that an FIR is likely to be registered against the accused juveniles on attempt to murder charge. Further investigation is underway, police said.
Ahmedabad (city) District Education Officer (DEO) Rohit Chaudhary said that details about the incident have been sought from the school management. “Based on the preliminary information, it is revealed that a Class X student was attacked as he was leaving the school after appearing for an exam. The school trustees have been contacted and asked to submit a detailed report. The student has suffered a head injury, been treated and discharged from the hospital. It looks like an internal feud and those who attacked are not school students. However, further information will be revealed once the school submits its response,” said DEO Chaudhary.
The school management, however, has reprimanded the students involved in the brawl and their parents. “When the students were leaving, a fight broke out between the two groups around 200 metres from the school. One of the students called students from outside. As a result, the fight broke out again and a boy was hit on the head with a stick. Currently, his condition is stable and safe. After this incident, we have called the students and their parents and reprimanded them, and have urged them to inform us first if there is any such issue,” one of the school trustees said.
The school authorities have also decided to deploy school teachers within 200 metres of the school gate during dismissal and school commencement.
