IES, Stanislaus, Joseph8217;s best

St Stanislaus, Bandra, was adjudged the overall best boys school, IES VN Sule Guruji English Medium Secondary School Dadar, the overall best co-educational school and St Joseph8217;s Convent, Bandra, the overall best girls school, for their all-round performance in sports.

Stanislaus will receive the Jesal Niranjan Ganjawalla trophy, St Joseph8217;s, the Niranjan Ratnasen Ganjawalla award and IES, the Bharati Niranjan Gangawalla trophy.

The trophies and the scholarships will be awarded to the schools at the 107th annual general meeting of the Association on Wednesday, August 25 at 10.30 a.m. at the St Xavier8217;s High School, 289, Lokmanya Tilak Marg, Fort, Mumbai 400 001.

The awards, donated by Niranjan R Ganjawalla, are to encourage and motivate schools to take part in more sports disciplines conducted by the MSSA and to work hard and win more events and bring laurels to the schools.

Ganjawalla also secured donation for the scholarship from Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limitedto the winning schools, through the initiative of the association President Alex Vaz.

YMCA swimming class at Belapur

The Institute of Advanced Aquatic Training and Pool Management, run by the Bombay YMCA at their CBD Belapur swimming pool, will be conducting a water exercise class from August 27.

Junior karate-do tourney

The Santa Cruz Mahila Mandal will conduct a Mumbai District Open sub-junior and junior karate-do championship at the Santa Cruz Mahila Mandal, community centre hall, Besant Road, Santa Cruz W, Mumbai 400 054, on August 29. State Ranking Badminton

The P J Hindu Gymkhana Senior State Ranking badminton tournament will be held from August 27 to 30, at the Hindu Gymkhana courts here. Players from the Railways, Petroleum and Air-India are also eligible to take part in this tournament. Entries close on August24.

Nine-a-Side football

The Bengal Club8217;s third Instant nine-a-side football tournament for the JC Maitra Trophy, will be held on September 4 and 5 at the club8217;s ground at Shivaji Park.

Holders Bengal Mumbai FC, Fr Agnel8217;s Institute, Central Railway, Western Railway, Holiday Inn, Union Bank, MS Police, Dadar XI and RCF are the teams invited for this year8217;s competition, which carries a prize-money of Rs 10,000 to the winner and Rs 7,500 to the runners-up. The quarter-finals will be played on Saturday, September 4 and the semi-finals in the morning and the final in the evening on Sunday, September 5. Former International goalkeeper Bandya Kakade will be the Chief Guest.
