Bournvita Inter-Schools Chess
The Bournvita Inter-Schools Chess Tournament will be held from October 23 to November 1. The tournament is for four age groups, under-8, under-10, under-12 and open (upto children studying in Standard 10).
Besides eight individual prizes in each groups (winner and runner-up), there will be also two prizes for the girls. There are also the team championships, with two best players of the same school in all the age group getting points for their school. The winner will be the school which has the best cumulative points.
The organisers, the Kalina Recreation Centre, will be also bearing the cost of the entry fee for best two players in each group in their respective National tournament.
Besides this, the best eight players from each group will be selected to play simultaneous chess against either an International Master or an IWM.
Change of dates
The Gokuldham Chess Club-conducted Rapid Tournament will be held on October 2 and 4 and not on 1 and 2. Thetournament, which will be held at the reading room of Bhavans College, will commence at 8.30 am. It is open only to players below the age of 21. Entries are accepted at Monginis Cake Shop, Goregaon (e), or A Manickavelu (6330122) before September 30. Entries will be also accepted at the venue from 7.30 am to 8.30 am on October 2 with late fee.
MIG TT from Oct 10
Middle Income Group Cricket Club, Bandra will be conducting a State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament from Oct 10 to 15. Entry forms can be collected and submitted at the Club between 11.00 am and 7.00 pm till October 6. The tournament, jointly sponsored by Pepsi, Shaw Wallace and IDV, will carry a prize money of Rs 40,000.
