Banking on power

Bank of India clinched the sixth All-India Inter-Bank powerlifting competition organised by Bank of Maharashtra under the auspices of the Bank Sports Board BSB.

Jentry Francis Union Bank of India muscled to the strongman title, creating four records in the 56 kg class.

VN Krishnan of Danalaxmi Bank excelled in the bench press, lifting 170 kg out of 760 kg.

The event served as selection of the BSB team to participate in the National championships at Hyderabad from August 24-27.

Athletics meet at Priyadarshini

The Bombay City District Amateur Athletics Association annual meet will be held from September 6-8 at Priyadarshini Park Grounds, Napeansea Road.

Entry forms are available at University Sports Pavilion, Marine Lines, Priyadarshini Park and the Association office at Brabourne Stadium North Stand, Churchgate.

Entries close on August 31.

National Games boxing trials

The National Games trials boxing tournament commenced today at the Central Railway Mechanic Institute, Parel.

Participants from Central and Western Railways, Indian Navy, BEG Indian Army, Maharashtra State Police and other prominent boxers from all over the state will vie for honours.

Bengal Club tourney

The Bengal Club8217;s second nine-a-side two-day football tournament for the JCMaitra Trophy will kick-off today at their ground at Shivaji Park. Eight teams will participate in a knockout format. These are RCF, MSP, Fr Agnel, Central Railway, Mumbai Customs, BMFC and Western Railways.

Inter-school badminton n THE Mumbai Schools Sports Association Inter-school badminton tournament will be held from September 14-22 at the Cricket Club of India. Entries close on August 28.
