Himachal Pradesh Congress vice president Pratibha Kumari today resigned from the post for personal reasons. Her resignation has been accepted with immediate effect, party state president Sant Ram said.
Pratibha Kumari, wife of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, had lost the recent Lok Sabha election in Mandi parliamentary constituency.

Paramjit Singh Roll no.1295 of Khalsa College, Amritsar bagged the top position in M.C.A. Master of Computer Application entrance test-1998, the result of which has been declared here today by Guru Nanak Dev University. The test was conducted on June 10. Surjit Singh, coordinator and director of the computer centre said Nitin Bhatia Roll no.1042 of DAV College, Jalandhar stood second, while Rekha Jain of KMV Jalandhar Roll no. 1074 was third in this test.

The workshop was organised to impart latest technical know how on the manufacturing of roofing sheets, aerocon wall panels, radial exhaust and other building materials. S.K. The Congress party has criticised the Centre government8217;s decision to raise the retirement age from 58 to 60 years. Revealing the resolution of the Sulah constituency workers meeting, Jagjiavan Pal, the vice chairman of the Bhawarana block samiti, asked the state government not to implement the decision as it would further add to the problem of increasing unemployment. The meeting also charged the Bharatiya Janata Party workers of intimidating the Congress men.

Guleria, SDM, Paonta Sahib, who was the chief guest, handed the money to 10 elders of the settlement assisted by Helpage India. S.S. Sandhu, director general, Helpage India was the guest of honour. Karma Singey, president, Tibetan Cholsum settlement thanked Sandhu for sanctioning financial aid.

The Himachal Pradesh government has succeeded in seeking an acceptance from the Centre for establishing a 8220;Krishi Vigyan Kendra8221; at Chaib near Kangra for which land has already be allotted to the department. Addressing a public meeting at Abdullahapur village near here yesterday, Agriculture Minister Vidya Sagar said the Kendra would be an asset to agriculture experts and farmers. He said the State government was eager for the upliftment of farmers so it had decided not to enhance the fertilizers prices.

Shifted
PALAMPUR:
Mintu Kumar, a Class V student of government school Pahra, who has been paralysed for nearly six months after he was allegedly beaten up by a teacher, has been shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla in critical condition. Hans Raj Sharma, the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Palampur said here today, that the boy had been shifted to provide him better medical facilities as per the directions of State Human Rights Commission.

AMBALA:
The Ambala police, through a special drive, have succeeded in apprehending one proclaimed offender and 12 bail jumpers during the period from May 25 June 8 last. Superintendent of Police Mohinder Singh Malik said that the search was started after obtaining secret information of the hide-outs of the criminals involved in different crimes from the police stations in the district. He said the proclaimed offender Ramesh Kumar belonged to Ludhiana in Punjab.
The bail-jumpers included Satpal Singh, Jaspal Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Nirmal Singh, Anil Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Didar Singh and Man Chand.
