Security agency without licence: Owner booked

The Chatuhshrungi police booked Raju Maruti Kusalkar of Pandav Nagar under the Private Security Agencies Regulation Act of 2005 for running Soma Security Agency without a licence. Inspector Sheshrao Suryavanshi produced him in the Shivajinagar court on Thursday. The court ordered Kusalkar to stop his agency and pay a fine of Rs 10,000.

8220;This is the first time in the state that the owner of an unauthorised private security firm has been fined,8221; confirmed Joint Commissioner of Police Rajendra Sonwane.

8220;Pune police have identified 230 private security agencies in the city that are running without licences. Police have issued notices asking the owners to shut down. If they don8217;t, legal action will be taken,8221; Sonawane said.

Police are also verifying whether the guards employed by such security agencies carry valid licences to use their guns. Recently, the crime branch arrested four private guards who had procured a fake gun licence from Jammu and Kashmir and then used it to buy guns.
